Nesting

I had to put a post on here about nesting. You hear so much about mom's wanting to clean and nest right before little one comes along. I have decided that, in my case, nesting is EXPENSIVE! So far, all we have done is spend money...we bought a new car...a 2009 white Saturn Outlook. I will have Matt take some pics so we can add them to this post. We had the house exterminated (I had been seeing spiders and I won't even go into the lizard thing!) Ummmm we finally had the kitchen painted and are now using the rest of our wedding gifts that had been waiting for the new kitchen for their debut! We also bought a steam cleaner because I decided all the upholstered furniture in the house needed to be steam cleaned...you can guess how that is going...hahaha!

Now in the middle of all this, I have gone back to work and am extremely tired in the evenings. We are 2 weeks away from Sawyer's arrival and I am wondering if I can make it. I may see about just working mornings for the next 2 weeks!

Tuesday, August 11

We had another "dual" appt. today and Matt was able to meet me. Oh, I went back to work yesterday...blech...but anyway, he met me and we headed over there together. I had to be back at school that evening for Open House. We went to the high risk office first and had the stress test and everything looked good. He performed just like he was supposed to. Next we had the ultra sound to check things out and the little stinker is STILL BREECH....according to Grandma Julie, he is being stubborn...kinda like his dad who was also breech! He looked good on the US and the tech was impressed with how much he was moving around and his muscle tone and all that.

Next we headed down to Dr. Hahn and filled him in on the breech situation. At this point, Sawyer had been breech for several weeks, but we kept hoping he would turn because he was beginning to run out of time! Anyway, Dr. Hahn discussed the "version" technique with us and I believe he was rather relieved to hear it wasn't something we were interested in. Soooooo we scheduled a C-section for Sawyer's big debut at 9:00 AM on Monday, August 31. I will be 39 weeks on that day. They are considered full-term at 37 weeks which is where I am currently. I will be in the hospital for 4 days and bring the little guy home right before Labor Day weekend! We are so excited!

Sawyer's shower with family and friends...

Saturday, July 18, Sawyer's aunts threw him a baby shower at Ravanelli's. There were over 40 people there and I had a really great time! It was fun to see everyone and all the little babies too! We played a couple of silly games and had lots of time to visit with family and friends. Sawyer got so many nice things and it was fun to open all that stuff! Our living room was overloaded for a while! Oh and we had a yummy whipped cream icing cake too! Grandma Julie was able to be there with us so that was fun too!

Vote on our new poll...

Monday, July 6

Just had to share what they did to Matt at our last night of childbirth class...wasn't he a good sport? They said it weighs about 35 lbs. He had it on for about 20 minutes or so and wasn't too comfortable!

Gestational Diabetes Update

Friday, June 19-So today I went in for my 3 hour glucose test and it was the pits. Midway through I began to get the sweats and nauseous. I couldn't drink anything for those 3 hours. I had my fasting blood draw first thing, then the super sugary drink about 9:30, and then had blood draws at 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30. The office called the following Monday and said I had failed 2 of the 4 blood draws...just barely. But that meant I would have to see a nurse educator, nutritionist, and high risk Dr. So I scheduled those appts. and pretty much came home and had a meltdown for a few days.

Thursday, June 25-Met with the nurse educator today and received testing supplies. I have to test my blood 4 times a day and will meet with the nutritionist next week to discuss diet. Needless to say, I went home and had yet another meltdown.

Monday, June 29-(Matt's b-day)Met with the nutritionist today, Dana went with me, and received some helpful information to help manage my blood sugars. Which since testing daily, they have been pretty good.

Tuesday, July 7-Today I met with Dr. Amon (high risk) and we tested BP and it was great. He was pleased with my blood sugar readings. We listened to Sawyer's HB and discussed my overall health throughout this pregnancy. He still wants me to test 4 times a day but said meds would not be necessary at this point because my numbers have been so good so far with just managing my diet and exercise. I was a little distressed when he told me he wants to see me EVERY WEEK though. I will see Dr. Hahn next tuesday for my regular 2 week appt. and I will see what to do about all the Dr. visits. Dr. Amon want to do an US, non-stress test, measure cervical length, and regular visit every week. If he is doing all that, then I don't see the need for any other office visits...we will see what Hahn thinks.

Soooo, I think that is about the complete update on all that. At this point, I still feel like it is kind of running my day, but I am sure it will get better. I have determined the key for me so far, is getting those proteins in my snacks and more proteins with meals. I have cut back on carbs and sweets. I am searching for recipes for some low carb desserts...lol.

Best of all is Sawyer is completely healthy. Last week's US showed him measuring EXACTLY where he is supposed to be and the fluid was right where it is supposed to be. He weighed 3 pounds 5 ounces and will gain an ounce a day from here on out, so that would make today 3.12. Isn't that exciting? He was moving around and trying to eat his fist. He was laying kind of sideways with his head on one side and bottom on the other. I am feeling lot's of movement, mostly in the evenings. Sometimes I really wonder what he is doing in there!

Week of June 15
Monday, June 15-So tonight is the first night of our childbirth class. We brought pillows and a blanket and had no idea what to expect. Turns out the instructor is an RN/Lactation Consultant at DePaul and lives on Seminary in Brighton! We introduced ourselves and our coach and shared our due date and what we are having...there are 10 couples and all but one is having a BOY! The other couple isn't sure, they are waiting til delivery. I am sure I am the oldest mom in the group. Several of the ladies are due in July, so I will be interested to see if they make it to the remaining 3 classes. We learned about the stages of labor and watched a video about signs of pre-term labor. Next we got on the floor with our blanket and pillows and practiced relaxing and breathing. Next week we will tour the Labor and Delivery floor...which at DePaul is all newly renovated!
Tuesday, June 16-Had my 1 hour glucose screening today and it wasn't too bad. Also had a regular checkup and got to hear Sawyer's heartbeat loud and strong! Doc said he was very pleased with what he heard. My BP was lower than what it usually is, so we were pleased with that as well. I had gained a few pounds, so it looks like totally pregnancy weight gain so far is 3 lbs...not too shabby! We went ahead and scheduled my next several appts. since I am in my 3rd trimester now and Doc wants to see me every 2 weeks. These next appts. will include ultrasounds, non stress tests, and the beta strep test...I will keep you all posted! Upcoming appt. dates: 7/2, 7/14, 7/28, 8/4, 8/11) and that will put me at 36 weeks....YIKES! (and back to work)
Thursday, June 18-Got a call from the Docs office today and I failed the glucose screening and have to go in tomorrow for the 3 hour test. So I cannot eat after midnight and can only have some water before my 9:00 appt.
Friday, June 19-Okay, that was the pits...the drink was twice as sugary and I got to feeling queasy and sweaty midway through...not to mention having your blood drawn 4 times! We were not allowed to drink or eat anything for those 3 hours. I should hear next week if I passed or not so please keep your fingers crossed. I would hate to add gestational diabetes to my already list of advanced maternal age and hypertension...

On a side note for the week...Sawyer was so active this week. I guess he is just getting bigger and I can feel him more, but he seems to be moving around all the time! Just a week or so ago I might go a day or even 2 without feeling too much, but now it seems I feel him almost every hour or so!

Anniversary, Appointment, and Furniture

Sunday, May 24th was our 1st anniversary and we celebrated with our Cardinal baseball tix earlier in the week. We went to the farm for Memorial weekend and brought our caketop down to share with everyone. Mom and Dana had stored it for us. It was red velvet and still tasted pretty good for being a year old. Matt was a little leary...

Tuesday, May 26th was another ultrasound appt. and everything went well. Sawyer's little heart was beating strong at 162 BPM and Sue was able to get the cardiac pics she needed. When I asked for some "boy" reassurance, Sawyer was not cooperating...again! His ankles were crossed and his knees smooshed together! Sue could see the parts, but she just wasn't able to get a good picture. She assured me there would not be any "pink" surprises in the delivery room! My next appt. is June 16th where I will take the dreaded glucose test...

Wednesday, May 27th our nursery furniture was delivered...it was more than we expected! We had measured, but it was just a lot of furniture! I was able to order the the bedding and some of the accessories the week before (thank you maw maw julie and ggma bonnie...and the LG rebate program!) so we were able to set that stuff up. later in the week pa and maw maw came over to look at it and helped us arrange it in a way that it all fit...even grandma craghead's rocker! i was glad we were able to get that to fit!

Thursday, May 21

This was a big day! It was my last day of school before summer break and also my baby shower at work. Not to mention we had also gotten Cardinal tickets in the Bank of America club for our anniversay later in the evening. So the last day of school went great...the kids were only there for an hour, and my shower was after that, at 10:15. It was SO NICE! Dana and Mom were able to be there and most of the staff was able to stay. It was decorated so cute and we had yummy whipped cream icing cake and delicious sherbet punch! I had so much fun and Sawyer got so many nice things! I couldn't wait to get everything home and organized!
This was game 3 against the Cubs and we had already won 2...we were looking for a sweep! The game start time was 7:15, but we wanted to get there early because we had a dinner buffet and we just wanted to check things out. The food was good, but unfortunately our seats were not. We had seats 1 & 2 on the "drink rail" which meant they were taller chair type things with a narrow counter. Everyone else was sitting in cushy stadium seats! And I had a huge I-beam right next to me which I couldn't see around without leaning wayyy forward. Well, the usherette is making small talk with us about where we are from and such, so I ask her if anyone else had ever complained about these seats and she assured me I wasn't the first. She went upstairs to see what she could do and then came back to get us. Mind you, I did pull the pregnancy card and tell her that I was 6 months pregnant and couldn't sit in those chairs for 3 hours. She took us up to an open section with a few padded folding chairs and we were right by the doors to the Club, which was nice.

Right after the game began JACK CLARK came and sat RIGHT NEXT TO ME! How cool! Of course I waited a few innings before bugging him for his autograph. During this time was Pujols' first at-bat and he smacked a homerun right into the "i" in Big Mac Land! Again, how cool! So I eventually bug Jack for is autograph, and then he is my best friend and we chatted throughout the game, when he wasn't bombarded by fans. He is a really cool guy! We had a great night and it was an awesome way to spend our 1st anniversay! Oh, and we swept the Cubbies!

Friday, May 15

It has taken me a while to be able to put this on here, but we had a scary day on may 15th. I was driving home from work and felt like i was leaking amniotic fluid. i called the dr. office and waited for a callback. They don't take calls after 4:00, so was trying to get home to check what was going on and then get a call in if needed. They advised me to head straight to labor and delivery, which after many tears, we did. I was admitted and they immediately put a monitor on the baby and listened to the HB, which was strong. They took my vitals and all that was good. They gave me an internal exam which they have a swab that determines immediately if there is any presence of amniotic fluid, which there WASN'T! It turns out I had a horrible yeast infection and didn't even know it! They gave me a script and sent us on our way...totally relieved.

Now, the other part of this that was entirely stressing me out was this was Logan's graduation night and we were expected. I had to call my sis in the middle of all this and tell her we weren't going to make it...nonchalantly...ha! Well, huge storms came and graduation ended up being stopped and rescheduled for the following evening. We made it to Dana's house for the after festivities with the plan of not telling anyone. Unfortunately, my hospital wristband was stuck to my behind when we walked in the house. Dillon saw it and gave me a quizzical look as I grabbed it and stashed it in my pocket with my finger to my lips shushing him...We ended up telling people later, but I felt pretty stupid and embarassed about the whole thing after it was all said and done and I didn't want to take away anything from Logan's special night.

So, once again, Sawyer has scared his parents! I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with him!

Tuesday, May 5

I had another Dr. appt. this afternoon. Everything still seems to be going good. Weight is actually down from our initial January appt. Urine tests are still clear and BP is doing good. I talked to Doc about our vacation plans and those shouldn't be a problem. We discussed possibly taking our birthing classes in Alton rather than driving to DePaul for these. He doesn't see any reason why we can't do this. We did a quick ultrasound and Sawyer was moving around quite a bit. Still camera shy though! I have another big US scheduled at the end of this month to check out the cardiac stuff they weren't able to get to at the last one. Soooooo nothing really too exciting (which is good!)

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

These are pics from the work Matt and Norm did in the nursery on Saturday. A work in progress...

Tuesday, April 21

The results are in and team blue is the winner! Sawyer Matthew was VERY uncooperative during the ultrasound, but we finally got to see what we needed! We counted fingers, saw feet, measured thigh bones, and even saw a full bladder! At one point he was opening and closing his mouth and it looked like he was trying to tell us something! It was a lot of fun.
After, we went to Babies R Us and did some more registering...got a great deal on our big stroller! Then we headed over to the Mills for some serious BLUE shopping. Sawyer now has a few cute little outfits in his closet.
This past Saturday, Uncle Norm came over and helped Matt work on the nursery. They spent most of the day hanging white bead board. Now Matthew needs to work on the chair rail and trim. We want to get this finished before they call to deliver the furniture!

Sunday, April 19

Our big appt. is this Tuesday at 11:30. Hopefully Sweetpea will cooperate and we will be able to tell if it is a he or a she! We (at least I know I am) are very excited to know the sex of our little one. After our appt. we plan to go to Babies R Us and add lot's of pink or blue things to our registry...check back for an update!

p.s. So far, Matthew has refused to discuss or look at baby names. He has wanted to wait till we know the sex, so that is another reason I am excited for Tuesday to come on and get here!

Tuesday, March 31

I had my 17 week appt. this afternoon and all went well...whew! Doc was able to find the baby's heartbeat with the doppler machine (which we had been unable to do at previous visits.) It was right around 160 beats per minute! What an awesome sound! As he was moving the doppler around trying to find the heartbeat I kept hearing these "whoosh" sounds and Doc said that is movement and was I feeling that? I could not believe how much sweetpea was moving around and that I could not feel a thing!

My blood pressure was good and my urnine test was fine as well. There wasn't any weight gain from the last appt. So it seems like things are really chugging along quite nicely. Our next appointment is April 21st and we will (hopefully) be finding out the gender. So you still have some time to vote on our poll. I will be sure to post that evening to let everyone know what we have found out. I told Matt we will head to Babies R Us after our appt. to add either pink or blue things to our registry. Won't that be fun?!?

Yesterday we measured the nursery and went to Lowe's to purchase the things we need to get the white beadboard on the walls. I am excited and I am expecting Treasure Rooms to call us here in the next couple of weeks to set up delivery for the furniture. Lot's to do...

Baby Furniture

Over the weekend I made it out to Treasure Rooms again to look over all of their furniture and kind of decided on one. They were having a pretty good deal and you could kind of create your own package. Matt and I went back Monday after work (they are only open til 5:00 and they are in Chesterfield!) We ordered a 4-n-1 crib (which means it is a crib, toddler bed, daybed, full size bed), the bed kit (rails to make it a full), dresser(which will be our changing table as well), bookcase hutch (which will attach to the dresser after we are potty trained), an armoire, and a nightstand for later use. We decided to go ahead and have this be the baby's furniture for life! haha!

We didn't order a mattress there because we decided we would shop around and possibly register for one at Babies'R'Us. They should be calling to set up delivery in about 4 weeks...yay! Best news is that delivery includes set-up!

After we were finished there we went out to Babies'R'Us to start our registry. It wasn't quite as fun as I expected because we still don't know what we are having and we didn't really want to register for green or yellow things when we could just wait a few more weeks and know for sure. Why not have pink or blue when you know you can? There are so many decisions to be made about car seats and strollers and all that stuff. We need to invest more time...possibly more online research.

So, I suspect after our 20 week appt. on April 21st, we will be making another trip out there to scan all of the (hopefully pink!) items we didn't get to this time.

I hope to work on the office/nursery this weekend and things organized, then packed away. Matt has agreed to hang white beadboard to the chair rail in the nursery, so I guess that will be our next project. We don't think we will be painting since we just painted everything when we moved in. The walls are a khaki brown and will look good with the white bead board and furniture. I just plan to accent with either PINK or blue...and whatever bedding we choose. This is getting to be exciting!

Next Appts.

Tuesday, March 31-regular monthly appt.

Tuesday, April 21-This is the day we should be able to find out the sex of the baby. I told the girls at work to check my shirt on Wednesday the 22nd to see what color I am wearing! (think pink!)

3-16-09 Dr. Appt.

This appt. was scheduled last week when my bp was a little high. Last Wednesday they put me on labetalol and had me monitor my bp daily. (Thank goodness for school nurses!) Mom got to go with me today and see little sweetpea flailing around...he/she had the hiccups and was realling convulsing! The doc even seemed quite amazed. I felt sorry for the little one! Anyway, doc was pleased with my bp and also said that my 24 hour urine sample from last week came back all clear as did all of my blood tests! He also told me that I hadn't gained any weight this month and had even lost some weight in February...yay! So it was a really great appt.

Our little "bun in the oven!"

Mamma and Pappa minutes after we found out!

Welcome!

Welcome to our Baby Stout blog. I hope I will become good enough at this to keep you all informed and updated throughout the pregnancy. Any help/advice from experienced bloggers would be greatly appreciated! I am wingin' it here!

Here are some journal entries I made before we started the blog...

JANUARY 4, 2009
today is sunday and we just got back from ft lauderdale on friday evening. i was supposed to start my cycle sometime during that week we were gone, but i didn't. matt asked me this morning if i had started and if i could be pregnant. i really hadn't thought about that but since we had been purchasing so many ovulation kits lately because we had been trying for a while, one of them came with a free pregnancy test. we were getting ready to go to my mom's for our regular sunday dinner and i thought i would go ahead and take one just for kicks....what do you know it said pregnant in like 15 seconds! i freaked and immediately showed it to matt...neither one of us knew how to react... we had been trying, but at 39 and never having been pregnant before, this was a totally new thing for me. of course i had to tell someone, so, after dinner, i was able to pull my sister, dana, aside and tell her. she was so excited. i still didn't believe it was real. on the way home, we stopped and bought another brand pregnancy test...it too was positive in about 15 seconds!now for the ironic part of the story...i had had my annual ob checkup on dec 17. at that visit doc and i discussed my age and how long we had been trying and he decided he didn't want to waste anymore time, so referred me to a fertility specialist. i called that office the next day and got the ball rolling. in a few days we received a packet we needed to fill out and return. our appt. was scheduled for january 5th!

JANUARY 5, 2009
so, needless to say, i called dr. witten's office monday morning and told them about the positive test and being about a week late and they told me they didn't need to see me and that i should call my ob. well, my ob had an opening that afternoon so we went there instead of the fertility specialist.they did a urine test and blood test. the dr. was a little worried cause their urine test only showed a faint line, so, of course, that had me worried, too. dr. hahn estimated me to be at the beginning of my 5th week. on the way home we called and told my parents.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2009
the next morning was icy and i tried to make it to work, but slid off the driveway...called in to work. then i called dr. hahn's office for hcg levels and they were 771. they called the next day and wanted me to come in the next monday for another blood draw. wednesday at work i was informed i would be docked for the missed day, but everything was eventually worked out. i called ch that morning and told her i was pg. later that evening i told kari. they would have figured it out the minute i wasn't drinking diet pepsi at lunch anyways.

JANUARY 12, 2009
i went for another blood draw and called the next day to hear my levels were 10,468. the dr. said those were normal and good and progressing just how they were supposed to. doubling about every 36 hours. what a relief! still no pregnancy symptoms though...my next appt. is monday, the 19th (mlk)

MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 2009
today is our big appt where they will do the health history and an exam. we even have an ultrasound scheduled! we had been at the farm this weekend and told jessica on the way down. our due date is a few days after her birthday!the appt. went well and the exam went well and the us was wonderful...we got to SEE and HEAR our babies' heartbeat! we even got pics to bring home! matt's mom and bill are coming in this weekend and staying with us. we will tell them when they are here.still no real symptoms...maybe some constipation(yay me!) and fatigue.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2009
was in severe back pain this morning and again on thursday. called dr. hahn's office and brandi recommended me to dr. devine, a chiropractor. seems i injured my back while riding 4wheelers at the farm last weekend. apparently i wasn't supposed to be riding them in my condition?got an appt. with dr. devine for friday. matt's mom and bill come in thursday evening. we are hosting dinner for everyone on friday...hope my back is better.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2009
had some light spotting this morning...we were off tuesday and wednesday for snow. no long distance service to make any calls. was spotting again some on thursday, so ended up calling the dr. office friday morning and they squeezed me in for an us that afternoon. what an experience! the dr. himself actually performed the us and he was a hoot! had no clue what he was doing! but we were able to see the heartbeat. my next appt. is february 16.we are wanting to get through our first trimester before we tell everyone else...i told my mom she could start telling people the first week in march...so about one more month...

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2009
have been constipated badly all week. i think i am eating well as far as high fiber things and keeping hydrated. stopped and got some prunes and some chewable fiber tabs...shall see if that helps. i feel so bloated and gassy and most of my pants are tight. my shirts don't seem long enough. i think this weekend we are going to go look at baby furniture...just to get an idea.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2009
we went to chesterfield to look at baby furniture. got back from dinner and had bright red bleeding with a clot. was scared to death. called the on call # and had to call 3 times till the doc finally called me back! one and a half hours later! the bleeding had stopped and he said i shouldn't worry but to call my doc first thing monday. i rested that evening and the whole next day. there was no more bleeding...just dark brown spotting. i am so worried...

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2009
called off work this morning and called the doc and they wanted me to come right in for an us. i was there by 10:00 and sue did an external us and we were able to see the baby and hear a very steady heartbeat of 171 bpm! sue searched around the uterus looking for anything that could be causing clotting and found nothing. she did see 2 fibroids which she said were not a concern since they were so small. she gave us another pic and told me to be on light duty, to rest, no lifting, excessive walking/standing, etc. until the 14th week. i was so relieved! on the way home i stopped at jcp outlet and bought 7 maternity shirts!
